Today Samuel turns 6 months old! Seriously!? I can't believe it's been that long already. As Daniel put it last night, "We're about 1/36th of the way there..." until we send him off to college! Yikes, that's a funny thought.

Mom came up last Thursday to see Samuel and to keep him for the night while Daniel and I went out for an early Valentine's celebration. Daniel had bought us tickets to go see Shawn Mullins! We went out to Fellini's (one of our old favorites) for dinner and then headed down town. It was a great show and even the 2 opening bands before him were great. Since we showed up early for the opening acts, we were able to get right up front when Shawn Mullins came out. This made the 2nd time I'd seen him and Daniel's 3rd. We got home VERY late, much later than expected, and mom and Samuel had long since gone to bed. It was great having a night out just the two of us, thanks mom!

Daniel had Samuel all by himself this Saturday and Sunday because I had to work and his mom and dad went to Vicksburg for a work weekend on their rental house. Samuel took him through the ringer on Saturday. My patient at work had just been trying to deliver when (long story short) the doctor decided she needed an emergency c-section. We had just wheeled her back to the OR on the stretcher and were trying to get her prepped to start when I got a phone call from a very frustrated Daniel.

Apparently, Samuel had cried and screamed through his afternoon nap (it was 5:00 by this point!) and was refusing to sleep! Daniel was almost at his wit's end, but there was nothing I could really do for him at that point. I felt so bad that I couldn't help, but I had to get back to the c-section and tried to just encourage him to try again to get him to sleep and to try not to strangle him out of frustration. He did eventually get a nap in and, of course, was a perfect angel by the time I got home that night. Sunday, the report was much better. Samuel stayed on schedule with his meals and naps and no frantic phone calls.

Daniel even got to wash his car in the driveway while Samuel watched intently from his highchair in the garage. :) Daniel even took a picture for me, because he knew I'd want to see it. What a sight for the neighbors! But now I have 3 days off in a row to stay home with Samuel, so Daniel get's a little reprieve.

Here he is, vegged out, watching his Baby Einstein because he only took a 30 minute nap this morning and he's still really tired, but refused to go back to sleep. Tomorrow is his 6 month check up, so I'll have to post an update on his weight, length, percentiles, etc.
And now for Samuel's first experience with baby food and his brand new high chair: Home-made apple puree.
Survey says...he doesn't like it!!
(and no, he's not choking. He's gagging because of the taste and trying to figure out what his evil mama just put in his mouth! I love the full body shutter, too.)

That's a great video to show him when he's older! The expression, and full body shudder - too cute. Try them again sometime and he'll suddenly love them! Sure enjoyed my last visit - glad Daniel survived the weekend!
