He’s a Big Kid Now…

IMG_0689 This past weekend, Samuel did really well wearing just his big boy underwear - no diapers! He gets really excited in the mornings about putting them on, and though he only has 3 pair (all Buzz and Woody, just slightly different designs), he likes to pick out which ones he wants to wear each day. Guess it's time to go get him some more, huh?

We usually change him back into his Pull-Up's for bed time, but he's been doing really well about staying dry until the morning. When he wakes up, we have about 1-2 minutes to go snatch him up and put him on the potty or he'll go in his Pull-Up, so we've become accustomed to reacting quickly to him stirring in the mornings.

Last Sunday night he begged to go to bed in his "Big Boy Underwear" and we were pretty nervous, but figured if he's that excited about it... We woke up dry and excited, and you could tell he was really proud of himself! So since then, we've been all Undies! IMG_0979
I had yesterday off work and Samuel had picture day at day care so I went ahead and took him in. I got some errands run and some work done around the house, but when I went to change the sheets on Samuel's crib, I hesitated. Daniel and I talked it over and we decided this is probably as good a time as any to go ahead and convert Samuel's crib into a toddler bed. Dellaina was about 2 years old and Wyatt about 2.5 when they moved up to their big kid beds, so with Samuel doing so well with the potty training, we figured why not try?

Samuel was super excited when he got home from school yesterday. He seemed a little bit confused when he walked in his room, but he warmed up to it quickly. Last night was his maiden voyage and he did great! Emily (our babysitter when we go to small group every week) said he did have an accident that evening not getting to the potty to pee in time, but that he stayed in his bed, and though he talked to himself for about 15 minutes, he went on to sleep without any fuss or getting up!

This morning my hospital put me on-call but I of course after I got off the phone with my charge nurse, I had to go check in on Samuel. He was curled up against the small rail at his head, so I gingerly slid him back over to the middle again. Later, Daniel offered to take him to school on his way to work if I could get him ready while Daniel got himself showered and readyIMG_1179. I walked in, opened the shutters, turned on the hall light, started riffling through drawers, picking out shoes, until finally I just had to go nudge Samuel to wake him up. I sat on the floor next to his crib, which I think threw him off a little. He looked at me, half sat up in bed, then fell back down on the pillow and said, "I wanna go sleep, just one more time." When I told him he couldn't sleep anymore, it was time to get up, he replied, "But Jacob's not here." Haha! Jacob is his best friend at school, but I was so taken aback when he was one of the first thoughts in Samuel's head. I told him, No, Jacob is at school, so we need to get ready so we can go play with him. It still took him another 5 minutes of coaxing and rustling around his room to finally get him up, but his pants were dry!

Vacuum ClogFun photo of the day: It took me 45 minutes, a lot of grunting and cursing, the loop end of my fly swatter, and finally a mangled coat hanger to get all this clog out of the hose of my vacuum cleaner that is now working as good as new...

My goodness he's doing so good! I love his bed conversion, too. I remember the first time Andi just 'appeared' at our elbow in the living room when we thought she was fast asleep in her crib - you're smart to go ahead and get prepared.
